Having a patio as an extended part of your house can be fun with all the outdoor activities that you can plan. If you have taken much effort to renovate it into something stylish, you should also take into consideration a suitable and safe door lock for your patio. Most burglars would choose to enter your home via the patio door, therefore it would make a lot of sense to invest in something sturdy and durable. Fret not, it doesn’t have to be a huge ugly lock that would completely spoil the look of your patio. The important thing to consider when choosing patio door locks is of course – safety. Sure, you want something that won’t be too obvious and blends in with the rest of your house’s decoration; but all of that will go to naught the minute a burglar manages to break-in through the patio door. As most patio doors are made out of glass, a regular bolt won’t do the trick because if the burglar really wanted to break-in, they could break the glass. Hence, you could opt to install a security bar on your glass patio door. A security bar is a metal bar that can be installed on your patio door, which comes with a built-in alarm. That way, even if the intruder decides to break the glass, the security bar would resound and alert you, or your neighbours about a break-in. Another sort of lock to be considered is the auxiliary lock, which is commonly used for sliding doors. Sliding doors can be very vulnerable to break-ins, as their regular locking mechanism is quite weak. Burglars have perfected the art of opening sliding doors without even breaking it, so to install an auxiliary lock would give you peace of mind. An auxiliary lock works in a way that it is mounted into the inner edge of your patio door on its frame, disabling door movement whether parallel or perpendicular . You won’t need a key to unlock the auxiliary lock, as it is easily operable with a lever. Choosing a patio door lock shouldn’t have to be a difficult job – but it would be best to spend a little more and get assured security than to lose it all when calamity occurs.
